Numerical and Experimental Studies of Unsteady Natural Convection Heat Transfer of a Single Door Static Refrigerator

EasyChair Preprint 4005

Abstract

In this study, numerical analysis and experimental studies were carried out to cool down a single door, freezer compartment static refrigerator with time dependent natural transport mechanism and to investigate the flow and thermal effects of thermostat behavior in the cabinet during the regime. There are compartments in the cavity that are intended to be kept at different temperatures offered to the user and it is very important to carry out the temperature control of these compartments during cooling with natural transport. Accordingly, the evaporator geometry, heat exchanger surface temperature and flow path in the cabin are critical parameters. In addition to the commercial code used, user-defined function (UDF) and temperature distributions throughout the cabin were examined in the time-based flow and thermal computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyzes that take into account refrigerator thermostat behaviors. The numerical results obtained and the experimentally drawn temperature map comparisons were made. Cooling speeds can be modeled to give high accuracy (5% error margin) results with time dependent temperature graphs.
