Abstract

English has increasingly become a global lingua franca, facilitating communication across diverse linguistic and cultural boundaries. This paper examines the effects of English as a global lingua franca on cultural identity and intercultural communication. Through a review of existing literature, case studies, and interviews with individuals from various cultural backgrounds, the study explores how the widespread use of English influences cultural identity and the dynamics of intercultural interactions. The findings highlight both positive and negative impacts, including the promotion of cross-cultural understanding and the potential erosion of local languages and cultural practices. The paper concludes with recommendations for fostering respectful and effective intercultural communication while preserving cultural diversity.
