Electrical Signal Shaping Effect's Analysis of Household-Scale Size Small Power Plant on the Residential Electricity Network

Abstract

The shaping effect of the electrical network signals of a 5.1kWp small power plant installed on the roof of a detached house and feeding back to the grid was investigated. During the residential network analysis, the power quality was measured in several possible cases, under load and no-load conditions. The tests showed that the inverter of the small power plant meets the quality condition of the electricity fed back to the grid and even improves the quality of the electricity purchased from the power supplier. However, harmonic filtering of the electronic devices and equipment used in homes should be addressed and a solution should be found to filter out the harmonics they emit, which cause high current harmonic distortion. One solution could be the use of phase-correcting active harmonic filtering equipment connected to an electric meter in family homes. In the future, further analysis and experiments will be needed to determine the impact of high grid harmonic distortion on the operation of electronic equipment, such as inverters in photovoltaic (PV) systems.
