We invite you to submit your abstracts for the 24th Australasian Fluid Mechanics Conference (AFMC 2024), to be held in Canberra, Australia in December 2024. This conference is being organised for the Australasian Fluid Mechanics Society, and brings together leading Australian, New Zealand and international scientists, engineers, educators and research students with common interests in fluid mechanics.
This fully peer-reviewed conference series has traditionally covered the broad field of fluid mechanics in all engineering and scientific disciplines, with conference proceedings published online to promote public dissemination of knowledge. A diverse range of research areas will be represented by the keynote speakers and conference sessions.
We now seek your abstracts across all submission types, as listed below. The abstracts are limited to 1 page and should contain your original research in one or more of the conference themes. If accepted for a paper or extended abstract format, you will be invited to submit your choice of full submission for consideration by the conference.
Our submission portal will open soon, with submission due by 17 May 2024. The abstracts will be peer-reviewed and the authors notified by 14 June 2024.
The abstract templates are available in Word or Latex format below. Please use one template, and submit your abstract in pdf format.
A link to our call for abstracts flyer is provided here.
We look forward to receiving your submissions and welcoming you to Canberra in December 2024 !
Notes on Submission Types:
We call for abstracts across the following four publication types. All abstracts will be peer-reviewed for acceptance to the conference, with a second submission for the full papers and extended abstracts.
- Listed paper: These will be listed individually in the proceedings, and will be subject to a standard peer review process (2 episodes). There will be an oral presentation associated with each submission.
- Non-listed paper: These will be included in the proceedings as a single PDF file, and will be subject to a shorter peer review process (2 episodes). There will be an oral presentation associated with each submission.
- Extended abstract: These will be included in the proceedings as a single PDF file, and will be subject to a shorter peer review process (2 episodes). There will be an oral presentation associated with each submission.
- Posters: Digital submissions of posters will be included in the proceedings as a single PDF file. These will be subject to a single peer review process, of the abstract only. There will be a poster presentation event during the conference but no oral presentation. The format requirements for the posters will be released shortly.
The listed papers will be indexed by databases such as Scopus, whereas the other submission types will not be indexed.
Due to a tight conference schedule, we can only accept a maximum of one submission intended for oral presentation from each registered attendee. Participants who wish to make multiple presentations are invited to submit abstracts for poster presentations.
As with previous AFMC conferences, the AFMC 2024 organising committee also plan to work with the International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow to publish a special issue. This will involve an opt-in process by authors, followed by an appraisal of the conference paper and its oral presentation by a special issue panel, led by the IJHFF Special Issue Lead. Authors of the most outstanding contributions which align with the scope of the IJHFF will be invited to submit an extended manuscript, for consideration for publication in this special issue.
