The WaterEnergyNEXUS conference, a pivotal event addressing one of the most crucial sustainability challenges for both our generation and those to come, is reaching its landmark 5th edition. Hosted by the Center for Membranes and Advanced Water Technology (CMAT) at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE); this edition promises to be a global nexus for innovation and collaboration. The conference has traversed continents, from Europe to Africa and Asia, reflecting the universal importance of water and energy sustainability.
This year, in collaboration with the Sanitary Environmental Engineering Division (SEED) at the University of Salerno, Italy, and the Advanced Institute of Water Industry at Kyungpook National University, Korea; the conference is set to unfold in Abu Dhabi. The UAE's active engagement with international agendas and national programs focused on water, energy, climate action, and sustainable development underscores the relevance of this edition's venue. Khalifa University, renowned for its leadership in water, energy, and environmental research and high international rankings, further elevates the event's stature.
The 5th WaterEnergyNEXUS Conference will leverage an international platform to facilitate the exchange of critical insights into sustainable development goals. Participants will engage with nature-based solutions, advanced technologies, and best practices through presentations by a distinguished panel of experts serving as plenary and keynote speakers. A key goal for the 2025 conference edition is to foster enhanced cooperation, integration, and sustainable development across the GCC, Euro-Mediterranean, Asian, and African regions, with a special focus on the interconnections between water, energy, and achieving carbon neutrality.
The WaterEnergyNEXUS series of conferences are supported by the International Water Association (IWA) and Elsevier.
**The conference will award (2) The Best Poster and (2) The Best Oral Presentation given by students.
**All works presented at WaterEnergyNEXUS are eligible for submission to collaborating journals (Q1 ISI Journals) for consideration in special issues following the journals' peer review processes.
Submission Guidelines
We invite submissions of abstracts (max. 500 words) for oral (including 3 min flash presentations) and poster presentations at the 5th International WaterEnergyNEXUS conference. Join experts from around the world to network, explore and discuss cutting edge issues related to Water & Energy.
Abstracts are submitted online trough the submission platform https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=wen2025.The decision will be made and announced by November 30th, 2024. The submission system will send you a confirmation email after each submission.To submit your abstract, please make sure to:
- Insert the title of your abstract in the “Title” section.
- Insert the abstract (max. 500 words).
- Select the relevant theme of your abstractas per the conference themes.
- Press the “Submit” button at the end of the form.
Note: By submitting an abstract, you agree that if it is accepted, one of the co-authors will attend the conference, register, pay the registration fee, and present the paper.

Registration fee includes access to all conference talks and events, conference materials, coffee breaks, and lunch on February 17th and 18th. It also covers the gala dinner on February 18th at the Yas Conference Center.
