Following the success of the first conference on Corpora in Language learning, Translation and Research https://conference.unizd.hr/clltr2023/, held in Zadar on August 23-24, 2023, we are considering publishing a conference proceedings that will include, but not be limited to, the papers presented at the conference.

 

Our aim is to bring together researchers and practitioners in the fields of corpora in MT, corpus linguistics, corpus-driven contrastive analysis, translator training, empirical translation research, corpus design and creation, corpus-driven and corpus-based linguistic research, corpus-based translation pedagogy, corpora as resources in specialized and literary translation, specialized and literary translation, data-driven learning (DDL) in language education, foreign language learning, lexicography, language for specific purposes, and the like.

 

Over the last decade, corpus and concordance have become an important topic in applied linguistics. The availability of multilingual corpora and processing tools has opened up new opportunities for linguists to conduct empirical analyses to study and examine language data.  Nevertheless, the application of empirical corpus-based learning is still limited in language and translation education and corpus driven pedagogy remains a challenging task to date.

 

SUBMISSIONS AND DEADLINES

- Expression of interest (abstract): January 15, 2024

- Submission of papers / full articles: January 31, 2024

- Notification of acceptance: March 1, 2024

Submissions will be managed though EasyChair. All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed by the members of the International Review Board.

 

SUBMISSIONS

All papers must be original, proofread in English and must not be presented simultaneously to another journal or conference.

Manuscripts should be submitted in both .doc (.docx) and .pdf formats (without the author’s name in the pdf file).

 

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

All papers, including abstracts, summaries, notes, and references should be no shorter than 24 000 and no longer than 30 000 characters with spaces. Additional tables and similar relevant data may be included as appendices.

All information referring to the author(s) should be anonymized throughout the paper by using *** instead of author names, including references.

Papers should be written in 12 point Times New Roman and 1.5 line-spacing.

Notes are written in the form of footnotes in 10 point Times New Roman and 1 line-spacing.

If a special font is used, it must be attached to the e-mail along with the paper.

Images should be sent separately.

Paragraphs should be separated by an extra space, not indented, and not right justified.

When citing authors in the text, please follow the pattern below:

McConnell and Fazio (1996: 1004) analysed the possible implications of gender-marked language published in the journal Language in Society in 1973 (Lakoff 1973)

(...) development that did not reach some of the dialects (Kortlandt 2006: 35–38)

historical linguistic works dealing with the development of standard Slovak (Pauliny 1983, Krajčovič and Žigo 2002, and others).

We ask authors to use the following quotation marks: double quotation marks for quotations, e.g., “quotation," and single quotation marks for definitions and translations of examples, e.g., "meaning."

Footnotes should be numbered after the parenthesis, comma, or period.

Longer examples, transliterations, or longer quotations are indented, written in 10-point Times New Roman, and spaced 1.5 lines apart.
Short examples (words or short phrases) should be part of the regular text but italicised.
Use italics to emphasise a word, term, or concept that is being defined.
Quotations longer than three lines are placed in their own paragraph without quotation marks.
Ellipses are indicated by three periods in parentheses; ellipses may not be placed at the beginning or end of a quotation.
References should be written in accordance with the Chicago Manual of Style.

The international conference Corpora in Language learning, Translation and Research aims to bring together specialists in the disciplines of corpus linguistics, specialized and literary translation, foreign language teaching, lexicography, LSP and NLP in order to share their insights on using corpora in language and translation education.

Over the past decade, we have witnessed that corpus and concordance have become a main topic in applied linguistics. The availability of multilingual corpora and processing tools provided language researchers with new opportunities for empirical analysis regarding examining and exemplifying language data. 

Nevertheless, the application of empirical corpus-based learning is still limited in language and translation education and corpus driven pedagogy remains the tough task to date.

This conference aims to offer a more detailed account regarding corpus approaches in language learning, translating and research.

Submission Guidelines

We invite the submission of abstracts in English until May 1, 2023. Abstracts should be between 600 and 800 words and submitted via EasyChair. All papers must be original and cannot simultaneously be presented to another journal or conference.

List of Topics

The conference is organized around three main research topics:

1. Data-driven learning (DDL) in foreign language education

2. Corpora as resources in specialized and literary translation

3. Corpus driven and corpus based linguistic research that contributes to the advent of language corpora in language and translation education.

Papers can also be oriented towards topics like:

corpora in MT

corpus driven contrastive analysis

translator training

empirical translation research

corpus design and compilation

corpus-based translation pedagogy
